Dragon New Year Prints

In several East Asian nations, including Taiwan, the year 2024 is celebrated as the Year of the Dragon. The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) coordinates the annual open call and presents the exhibition titled 'Soaring Like A Dragon as Good Fortune Beckons' (龍騰福聚) for The New Year Prints, with the goal of promoting cultural heritage and artistic endeavors.

New Year prints, a traditional form of folk art, involve affixing images of deities to doors during the Lunar New Year to attract good fortune and ward off evil spirits. In the face of evolving societal and environmental dynamics, the creation and production of New Year prints have gained significant importance in preserving and perpetuating traditional culture in Taiwan.

In the Year of the Dragon, 243 works are participating in the open call. The Taipei Cultural Center in New York proudly presents 6 First Prize-winning artworks and 2 commissioned pieces virtually on YouTube. Join us in celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistic expressions of the New Year of the Dragon.
