New York City, NY – For celebrating the Republic of China (Taiwan) Centennial, Taipei Cultural Center presents an Artists– Talk to share perspectives on aboriginal Taiwanese dance. National Taipei University of the Arts Assistant Professor of Dance Chi-fang Chao, with undergraduate students Kai-Chih Chang and Kuan-Chen Chen, join Rutgers University dance professors Julia Ritter and Jeff Friedman PhD., with BFA degree dance students, on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York ( 1 East 42nd St., New York, NY 10017). The talk will explore aspects of Taiwanese aboriginal culture through an ethnographic lens focusing on dance practices. The event includes introduction to the topic; discussion among the artists; a short video; and a live demonstration of Taiwanese aboriginal dance.
The Department of Dance at Mason Gross School of the Arts inNew Brunswick, N.J. campus of Rutgers Universitycelebrates its 30th anniversary in 2011 with an expansion of international exchange and study abroad programs. Department chair Julia Ritter has also been developing new opportunities for undergraduate students in London and Israel.
?I?m excited,? Ritter says. ?We are very interested giving our dance students expanded opportunities to explore the international scope of dance training and creative work in Europe and the Middle East. The Taiwan affiliation brings Mason Gross dancers and Rutgers University in contact with another important center of dance in East Asia.?
Mason Gross Dean George Stauffer has also developed a new exchange program that brings the entire Rutgers arts faculty and students in dance, theater, visual arts and music in contact with faculty and students at National Taipei University of the Arts, which also supports teaching, creativity and research in all four arts disciplines.
The Artists Talk event is the series of activities celebrating the 100th founding anniversary of the Republic of China, as well as a regular feature of the Taipei Cultural Center?s educational programs. A free reception for the artists to meet the public is provided after the talk.
