Sponsored by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture and Taipei Cultural Center, organized by the Association of Taipei Publishers, the Taiwan Pavilion—The Power of Writing—will give 30 Taiwanese publishing houses the opportunity to break into the American market at The Book Expo America & BookCon.
The Book Expo America & BookCon will have its grand opening at the Javits Convention Center on May 31st, 2017. It’s the first time for Taiwan to join this book fair. Talented and important individuals from publishers all over the world will gather at the Book Expo America & BookCon, where editors, copyright agents, and publishing houses are set to compete intensely. At the fair, the worldwide copyright for the works of hitherto unknown writers will probably be sold in an instant. This year, the Taiwan pavilion is set to appear for the first time, with the hope that native publications of distinction, along with those that exemplify Taiwanese culture, will be popularized throughout the world.
The Taiwan Pavilion—The Power of Writing—will join the book fair with 160 books, including literature, comics, children's books, picture books and language learning materials. European and American publishers have long had a strong presence in Taiwan. However, this is the first time for Taiwanese publishers to participate in the fair as a collective and is a chance for them to exhibit Taiwanese publications at their best.
The opening reception of Taiwan Pavilion will be at 11 am on June 1st, featuring a special section entitled "Key Books," which will exhibit fourteen specially-selected books organized into three categories. These will include Record of the Dark Wars by Wei Zhon-Cheng, Seizo, the Buddhist Head Priest Who Bought a Hairpin by Tou Poku, and Tiggy Tiger’s Lantern Festival by Wang Wen-Hwa. These pieces, which combine traditional Taiwanese culture with modern creativity, have a high potential for copyright sale at the fair. The design of the Taiwan pavilion is inspired by the vast ocean, which symbolizes the broad thinking and boundless creation involved in writing. The theme also symbolizes the attempt to spread Taiwanese culture and creative talent to the four corners of the world.
Professional copyright officers will be available on-site to introduce exhibits. On top of that, the Taiwan Pavilion is going to hold a joint conference on copyrights on June 2nd. In order to increase the chances of partnering and to expand communication channels, we are cooperating with the American Institute in Taiwan to invite publishers and copyright agents from all around the world to the conference.
