Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York and the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University is very pleased to co-present the touring exhibition Fertility, Blessings and Protection – Taiwanese and Asian Cultures of Baby Carrier. This joint exhibition features selected collections from Taiwan’s National Museum of Prehistory and the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University. The first stop of the tour exhibition held at Charles B. Wang Center in long island, Stony Brook, NY 11794 from March 11th through July 11th, 2015 with an Opening Reception (RSVP required) on March 11th, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00PM.

This exhibition is a part of 2015 Asia Week New York. Asia Week New York takes place on March each year. It is designed to celebrate Asian art throughout metropolitan New York, with non-stop exhibitions, auctions and special events presented by leading international Asian art specialists, major auction houses, and world-renowned museums and cultural institutions.

The touring exhibition features baby carriers and other tools associated with childcare from Asian cultures, beginning with Taiwan and extending to nearby areas, including southwestern China’s ethnic minorities and the Austronesian and South Asian peoples of Borneo, Bali, and Siberia. Baby carriers of various styles and forms reflect differences in culture, climate, customs, habits, and aesthetics, while also manifesting shared ideas about fertility, blessings, and protection, proof that love is the universal human language. Starting in Taiwan, this special exhibition explores the common spiritual values of the human race. Moreover, we hope that the exquisite cultural artifacts on display will transmit valuable knowledge and enrich Taiwan’s image as a country endowed with a rich and diverse culture.

This exhibition is jointly organized by Taiwan’s National Museum of Prehistory, the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University, curator Hsu Taini and the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, this exhibition received support from the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture.
