The first and biggest of its kind in North America, the second edition of inToAsia: Time-based Art Festival is set to open in New York Oct. 1, 2015 and run through the end of the month.
Aiming to raise the profile of Asia's time-based art in America, this year's event is curated by WANG Chun-Chi from Taiwan, Loredana PAZZINI-PARACCIANI from Italy and Carol Yinhua LU from China, and will draw 27 artists from countries across Asia and beyond to gather in New York and co-present their works.
On the theme of "Retina of the Unconscious", Part I of the exhibition by Wang, a Taiwanese curator trained in New York and currently based in Berlin, will opens the festival at Sylvia Wald and Po Kim Foundation at 6:00pm, Thursday, Oct. 1. In accordance to Wang, the exhibition intends to discuss the intricate relations between subconciousness and rationality. Through the works by artists from Taiwan (including Kuo I-Chen, Tao Ya-Lun, Ting Chaong-Wen, and Ni Hao), Japan(Chihiro Minato) and South Korea(Joon Kim and Sejin Kim), audience will be able to look into the connection of eyes and ears, and exam the idea of being here-and-now. On the same theme, artist Ting Chong-wne's installations titled "Murder: Er Lin Qi An" will be showcased in a different space-- inCube Arts Space in Upper West Side of Manhattan.
On Oct. 3, Italian curator and South East Asian art expert Pazzini-Paracciani will open the second part of the exhibition titled "Architectural Landscapes: SEA in the Forefront" at Queens Museum, while the next day Chinese curator Lu will express her concept of "Common Cause" via film screenings at the museum's theater.
The organizer of the event, inCube Arts, will wrap up this year's festival with a sound performance by Audrey Chen, C. Spencer Yeh, Ni Hao, and Tong Yi-Xin at 3-5:00pm, Sat., Oct. 24.
