  • Date:2022-10-07

To expand Taiwan's global presence, the country’s first international streaming platform, TaiwanPlus, launched a brand-new 24-hour TV channel on Oct. 3. Those present at the press conference marking the launch of the TV channel included President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te (李永得), senior members of the foreign diplomatic community, and others.

Minister Lee Yung-te said that the launch of the TaiwanPlus TV channel is a milestone that took Taiwan 20 years to achieve. He also stressed that MOC will continue to work towards three goals, including amending Public Television Act, launching TaiwanPlus channel in North America within six months, and grooming media talents for Taiwan.

TaiwanPlus Acting CEO Michael Yu (余佳璋) pointed out that the platform has produced 30 programs on topics spanning news, nature, technology, food, history and humanities since its establishment last year. The channel's social media has accumulated 420,000 followers and its news content has also been quoted by top media outlets from the US, UK, Australia, South Korea and other countries.

To bring Taiwan's stories and perspectives to the world, the TV channel will feature nine daily news segments, and multiple brand-new programs such as a talk show titled "Taiwan talks," focusing on news, politics, economic and current affairs, as well as travel programs including "Fabio & Andrew's Outdoor Adventures (法比歐與周厚安的戶外大冒險)," "Follow Me to Taiwan (台灣就醬玩)," "Wow! Taiwan," and "Come Away with Me (三人成行)," among others.

Starting on Oct. 3, the TaiwanPlus TV channel is available on channel 7 of digital terrestrial television and the international channel section of Cable Television in Taiwan, accompanied by a 24/7 YouTube live stream of the channel’s content.

Founded in 2021, TaiwanPlus is currently under the management of Taiwan Public Television Service (PTS) and Taiwan Broadcasting System (TBS). Through the TV channel, Taiwanese and international audiences will have access to a wide range of English news and programs centering on Taiwan's history, culture, and stories.
