2019TAIWANfest-Spotlight Taiwan Project takes place in Toronto and Vancouver

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan and organized by the Asian-Canadian Special Events Association (ACSEA), the annual event of 2019 TAIWANfest takes place in Toronto and Vancouver in Canada beginning August 23rd and ending September 2nd, 2019.

This year marks the 30th year of the TAIWANfest. It has grown into the biggest Taiwanese event in Canada ever since. Its emphasis has always been on the identity and cultural diversities of Taiwan. The theme of the fest this year is 「Partnering with Taiwan」, 「Dialogue with Taiwan」 and 「Ingenious Taiwan」(also the Spot light Taiwan Project). They are to create opportunities to work with local organizations, to start a dialogue between Asia and the rest of the world and to build the identity and uniqueness of Taiwanese Cultures. All themed programs including performance, exhibitions, literature, fashion design, new thinking are to reflect the identity and cultural diversities of Taiwan.

(一) 〈Celebrate Women Concert〉: Taiwan’s own female composer, Cin Cin Li, will bring audiences the voice of Taiwan.

(二) 〈Taiwan New DNA〉: Through the fusion of modern fashion trends and the age-old works of Indigenous arts, the role of Indigenous culture in Taiwanese society is changing – creating a whole new cultural DNA in Taiwan.

(三) 〈Taiwan Bookstores-Women Inspired〉:From different types of female novels to understand women’s emotions and their views of love relationships.

(四) 〈Hope Talk〉: To see Taiwan’s multiculturalism and the creativity of Taiwanese artists in invited designers’ blends of traditional Taiwanese culture, modern technology, and diverse range of art pieces.

(五) 〈Cinemaatic Taiwan〉:Through the films and documentaries to understand the stories of Taiwan.

(六) Ju Percussion Group (朱宗慶打擊樂): The first professional percussion group in Taiwan. It has shaped Taiwan into one of the world’s major centers for percussion development.

(七) 〈Island Scream〉:「Sorry Youth」, a Taiwanese band, sings its way to overcome obstacles and accomplish dreams.

(八) 〈The Sounds of Reconciliation〉:Two musicians from two cultures, each of different ethnicities, who share the same life experiences. They will meet for the first time, exchanging their stories through music.

The Spotlight Taiwan Project is to promote international cultural exchanges and cultivate a greater interest in and appreciation of Taiwan’s culture worldwide, public and private resources are being brought together and cooperated by museums, performance centers, cultural centers, etc.
