旅德臺灣作家陳思宏長篇小說《鬼地方》曾獲臺灣文學金典獎年度百萬大獎、金鼎獎文學圖書獎，將在10月25日由獨立出版社Europa Editions於美國發行英譯本。紐約時報9月公布秋季書單(The New Season Book Listing)，《鬼地方》(GHOST TOWN)名列62本推薦書單之中。
紐約時報介紹，當讀者遇到「鬼地方」主人翁陳天宏，他因殺死情人入監服刑，出獄回到家鄉所在的臺灣小村莊。他多年前從家鄉躲到德國柏林，想逃離家族期盼、找尋同志身分認同。作者陳思宏在後記中提到，「我一直想寫一本『鬼』故事，但到底什麼是『鬼』？」
陳思宏出生於臺灣彰化永靖，目前旅居柏林。他接受文化部駐紐約臺北文化中心邀請，預定10月造訪紐約及華府，在紐約公共圖書館、紐約皇后區公共圖書館、紐約市立大學杭特學院(Hunter College)及華府喬治華盛頓大學(George Washington University)等地出席講座。
《鬼地方》包含看似荒誕的情節與真實生活經驗素材，文字鮮活且展現複雜的時空書寫技巧，中文版2019年在臺灣上市後廣受歡迎，並被譯為英文、韓文、越南文和義大利文等語版。
對西方讀者而言，《鬼地方》令人聯想到美國南方歌德小說傳統、已故諾貝爾文學獎得主馬奎斯(Gabriel Garcia Marquez)代表作「百年孤寂」中的虛構小鎮馬康多等，故事中活著的人和死掉的亡靈同時並存，亡靈的存在讓故事染上魔幻寫實色彩，讓故事變成了真正有鬼的「鬼地方」，極具國際市場推廣潛力。
《鬼地方》英譯本獲文化部翻譯出版獎勵計畫贊助，由知名譯者石岱崙(Darryl Sterk)翻譯，英國版於8月發行出，北美版預定10月上市。美國《書目雜誌》(Booklist)書評提到，「作家陳思宏在掌握素材上表現得非常出色，塑造的角色立體、場景精美、結尾的驚喜也恰如其分(Author Kevin Chen has done a masterful job of managing his material, creating multidimensional characters, a beautifully realized setting, and an apposite surprise ending)」。
紐約時報書評版已有126年歷史，其嚴選書單及書評在美國極具權威性，也直接影響書市的銷售業積，《鬼地方》入選紐約時報書單，期待能讓更多國際讀者看見臺灣文學作品的精彩與特殊性。
