Taiwanese artist Joyce Ho will be participating in the second part of the inaugural Asia Society Triennial《We Do Not Dream Alone》

  • Date:2021-03-03

The Triennial features 40 artists from more than 20 countries, including Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Singapore and Israel. Its goal is to share the Asian experience from a global point of view and display how artists from throughout the continent address their concerns. It provides a window into the development of contemporary art and its diversity in Asia, while also spotlighting Asian cultures and histories that deserve more attention. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part ran from October 27, 2020 to February 7, 2021, and the second part will run from March 26 to June 27, 2021. Joyce Ho will be participating in the second part.

“The Asia Society Triennial is the first Triennial ever created to show contemporary art from Asia in New York City. Taipei Cultural Center and Asia Society are very grateful to present Joyce Ho. Her unique works offer a cross-disciplinary point of view and make daily rituals meaningful by adding [the] element of time. It just shows how arts can bring people comfort and help everyone to adapt to new normal in a pandemic world,” said the director of the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Huichun Chang.

The Triennial takes place in multiple venues, including the Asia Society Museum, New-York Historical Society, Park Avenue Malls at East 70th Street, and Time Square Arts. Joyce Ho will have six pieces of artwork installed in the Asia Society Museum. She will also present two performances of An Artist Talk virtually, performing alongside two Taiwanese actors. The first is tentatively scheduled for March 31, and the second will be included as part of the Asia Society Virtual Spring Gala Event on May 5. The audience will be able to watch the live performance online, as a recording will be available on the Triennial website and Youtube channel throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Joyce Ho was born in Taipei and received her M.A. from the University of Iowa in 2010, specializing in painting. She currently lives and works in Taipei. Her practice includes painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance. Her multifaceted works explore daily rituals, the deconstruction of movement, and the tension between illusion and reality. She has held numerous solo shows and has been included in many important art festivals around the world, including the following events and locations: 2020 Yokohama Triennial: Afterglow, Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama, Japan, 2019 Still: Joyce Ho Solo Exhibition, OzAsia Festival, Artspace Gallery, Adelaide, Australia, 2018 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia, 2016 Semitransparent Scenery, The First Kirishima Lobby Project, and Kirishima Open Air Museum, Kagoshima.
