6 TAIWANESE MODERN DANCE TROUPES PERFORMANCE IN 2010 WORLD DANCE ALLIANCE GLOBAL DANCE EVENT

  • Date:2010-07-30

This exhibition features recent work by Pacific Rim artists that push the boundaries of narrative through works in experimental animation, 3-D digital animation, video, and film. Artists were chosen for their ability to weave the past with the present, the local with the universal, and the ancient with the futuristic through their work. Established artists like Japanese-American artist Bruce Yonemoto and Taiwanese artists Charlene Shih are juxtaposed with rising stars like Korean-born New Zealander Lee, Hye Rim, and balanced out with exciting works by emerging Taiwanese artists such as Su, Hui-Yu, Tao, Mei-Yu, Chiang, Chung-Lun and Ma Kuang-Pei.
6 Taiwanese professional dance troupes are performing at New York prestigious dance venue - Dance Theater Workshop(DTW) this summer. Taipei Crossover Dance Company, Century Contemporary Dance Company, Assembly Dance Theatre,Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company, 8213 Physical Dance Theater and choreographer Chieh-Hua Shieh are selected in
World Dance Alliance (WDA) Global Dance Event.

The presentation of 6 troupes is made possible by Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan (R.O.C). And Taipei Cultural Center
will hold a ?Taiwan Artists? Talk? in conjunction with WDA to feature Taiwanese choreographers. The creation concepts of choreographers will be explored in depth for audiences to have a better understanding of Taiwanese modern/contemporary dance
nowadays; moreover, the development of Taiwanese modern/contemporary dance will also be discussed in the talk.

World Dance Alliance Global Dance Event is a conference and
festival which brings together an international cohort of over 350 dance artists, scholars, educators, and students from more than 25 countries as well as from around the United States. Event concerts are intended to provide a diverse representation of contemporary
dance art. The Event?s theme ?In Time Together: Viewing and Reviewing Contemporary Dance Practice? encourages broad investigation of relationships between dance and temporality. The
theme particularly emphasizes the contemporary-- con-/together + tempus/time. However, it also seeks to raise questions of how dance, often characterized as the most ephemeral or immediate of art forms and cultural practices, negotiates and has negotiated
time.

The Event is host by World Dance Alliance-Americas (WDAA) in
affiliation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and New York
University, Steinhardt, Dance Education Program.
