The world of tea is the world of five senses - hearing, smell, touch, taste, and sight - the exclusive feast with the fragrance of tea and string music. A place for regimen, pleasure, equanimity and meditation, this delicate tea salon nourishes a world of oriental aesthetics connecting the genuine nature, where allows the intercourses between the tea lovers and the tea. Art, music, and language, within such a relaxing and airy space nourished by tea, sustain a profound discourse among them.
Taipei Cultural Center in New York invites Zi Teng Lu, the established tea house in Taiwan, to be the host. Attendants, with the screening introduction and the tea masters’ on-site demonstration, will have the opportunity to brew tea themselves and observe how the curled tea leaves gradually expand in the teapot and how the tea fragrance spreads along with the live music performance of Guqin. l Zi Teng Lu, founded in 1981, is the earliest cultural salon in Taiwan. Dwelled in the Japanese-styled official residence maintained from Japanese colonial era, Zi Teng Lu is named after the three old wisteria trees in the yard. Among the past three decades, Zi Teng Lu has hosted various cultural activities, tea culture exchanges as well as intellectual forums. Having exchanged with music, dance, traditional folk musical art, and sinology through tea as the medium, Zi Teng Lu creates the multiple dimensions of Taiwanese tea culture. In 1995, Zi Teng Lu even held a performance “The Discourse between Tea and Music,” and an exhibition “Tea Culture” in Paris.
Hui Feng Lin: The main lecturer. Graduated from Department of Chinese Literature, National Taiwan University. Lin used to serve as the publishing editor of a publication, the editor-in-chief of a magazine, and the project editor of the Supplement in China Times Express of the China Times. Lin had lived in Vancouver from 1998 to 2005. Starting from 2006, Lin serves as the CEO of Zi Teng Lu Cultural Heritage and the Secretary-General of Zi Teng Lu Culture Association responsible for exhibit curations, domestic and international tea culture exchanges, as well as relative lectures and publications.
