I Wan Jan Puppet Theater 2016 US Tour

I Wan Jan Puppet Theater from Taiwan, invited by Flushing Town Hall, Mid-Manhattan Library, Chinese- American Art Council, and Michigan Taiwanese American Organization, is visiting New York, Ann Arbor from May 20 to May 25 and performing the acclaimed “A Chance Encounter Leads to Marriage” (巧遇姻緣).

A Chance Encounter Leads Marriage is a mesmerizing, traditional hand puppet show based on Peking Opera. This non-verbal piece tells the tale of a young couple's chance meeting at a festival that has puppets juggling, performing martial arts and much more. A Chance Encounter Leads to Marriage, read as Qiao-Yu-Yin-Yuan. This non-verbal piece tells the tale of a young couple's chance meeting at a festival that has puppets juggling, performing martial arts and much more.

This classic performance will showcase the puppets’ fine movements, such as the young male character (Sheng 生) folding a fan, the female character (Dan 旦) holding an umbrella, an older male (Mo 末) smoking, the clown (Chou 丑)falling from a chair, and street entertainers’ bustling martial arts and acrobatic acts. Without any language barriers, A Chance Encounter Leads Marriage will entertain kids as well as adults.

The first performance in New York will be held in the Mid-Manhattan Library on Friday, May 20 at 3pm. Admission is free. The rest of the events include: 4 performances and 1 workshop on May 22 and 23 at Flushing Town Hall, New York , 2 performance and 2 workshops on May 24 to 25 in Michigan.
