We are very pleased to announce that Taiwanese artist Ying-Chiun Lee participated in ISCP 2022 Spring Open Studios this year. Please join us from April 22nd to 23rd to see her works and others.
Ying-Chiun Lee starts her residency program, International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in March. Twice a year only, ISCP Open Studios offers the public access to private artists’ and curators’ studios to view artwork and share one-on-one conversations. Ying-Chiun Lee joins with other 38 artists and curators from 28 countries currently in residence to present their interests of research and creation.
Ying-Chiun Lee’s artwork explores the nexus of language and the erotic. Lee investigates ideas of sensuality through various imaging processes, methods of narrative, and storytelling. Her research relies on feminism theories, queer ecologies, and linguistics of Mandarin and English. Lee’s process-driven work focuses on observing the materiality of glass and using its fluidity, malleability, and translucency to celebrate the broad spectrum of genders and sexualities.
Ying-Chiun holds a BFA in Architecture at Shih Chien University and an MFA in Glass from Rochester Institute of Technology. She has received scholarships from Rochester Institute of Technology, Pilchuck Glass School, Corning Museum of Glass, and Urban Glass. Her film was selected for the 2020 GMTF film festival by Northland Creative. After graduating in fall, she participated in the 2022 winter residency at Penland School of crafts. During this residency, she utilizes the Neon shop in downtown Brooklyn and further develops in the studio of ISCP. Meanwhile, she extends her research on the rich history of Chinatown in Manhattan and the marginalization of Asian women.

Founded in 1994, the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) supports the creative development of artists and curators, and promotes exchange through residencies and public programs. The Ministry of Culture in Taiwan has worked with ISCP since 2000 to participate in the program.
