Internationally acclaimed Taiwanese music group- The Ju Percussion Group (朱宗慶打擊樂團) will present a recorded film “Stunning Virtuosity from Taiwan,”(台灣打擊敲響世界) featuring its best collections of concerts with introduction to the growth of the group in the past 35 years at 2020 PASIC virtually on November 13, 5pm EST. Originally the Ju Percussion Group was invited to travel to the States and to participate in the "Percussive Arts Society International Convention" (PASIC, 世界打擊樂年會) performances in November 2020. Due to the pandemic, Percussive Arts Society has to cancel the in-person performances and decides to do a virtual version of its annual convention. Taipei Cultural Center in New York is thus pleased to support the Ju Percussion Group to take part in the on-line 2020 PASIC. For the virtual evening concert, the Ju Percussion Group will present its performance highlights with intricate percussions arts, expert compositions and lively music, which will take audiences’ breath away.
Since 1976, the Percussive Arts Society has delivered concerts from world-class musicians during its annual convention: PASIC. In addition to these performances, PASIC showcases the latest from the percussion industry at its International Drum and Percussion Expo. Over the years, PASIC has continued to be one of the largest events where the percussion family comes together to converse, perform, inspire, and learn from one another.
Founded by the renowned percussionist Ju, Tzong-Ching(朱宗慶) in January 1986, the Ju Percussion Group devotes itself to performance, education and percussion promotion. The group has become known worldwide for its innovative blends of the East and West, traditional and contemporary. The members possess transcendental virtuosity in playing Western Percussion instruments as well as different forms of traditional Asian music. Through more than 3,000 domestic and international performances, it has greatly expanded Taiwan’s presence on the international percussion map. To date, the group has played in 34 different countries around the world, cultivating more than 130,000 percussion learners by means of its instruction system. Besides, the group has been commissioned to create as many as 242 pieces so far. The growth of Ju Percussion Group is, so to speak, a reflection of how contemporary percussion develops on the island.
Sharing the emotions of the rhythm, let percussion transform itself to be an unyielding source of creative energy and the medium of cultural exchange, and let the cultural art of Taiwan unleash its emotional furor to become a catalyst of energy whose vibration touches the world.
