Taiwanese artist Joyce He and other 40 artists participating in The inaugural Asia Society Triennial《We Do Not Dream Alone》

Taiwanese artist Joyce He (何采柔) is invited to participate in the inaugural Asia Society Triennial, titled We Do Not Dream Alone in New York. The Triennial features over 20 countries of 40 artists including Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Singapore and Israel. Collectively it is a display of contemporary art from Asia. It was planned to open this April but is postponed to October dues to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, it is divided into two parts of exhibition. The first one runs from October 27, 2020 to February 7, 2021 and second one runs from March 16 to June 27, 2021. Joyce He will join the second part.

“The Asia Society Triennial is the first Triennial that ever created to show contemporary art from Asia in New York City. Taipei Cultural Center and Asia Society are very grateful to present Joyce He. Her unique works offer a cross-disciplinary point of view and make daily rituals meaningful by adding element of time. It just shows how arts can bring people comfort and help everyone to adapt to new normal in a pandemic world, “said the director of the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Huichun Chang.

The Triennial sets goal to share Asian experience from a global point of view and displays how artists who inhabit in this wide religion address their concerns. It is like a time lapse of the development of contemporary art and its diversity in Asia. It also refocuses on Asian cultures and histories that desire more attention. The Triennial takes places in multi-venue including Asia Society Museum, David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the Park Avenue Malls at East 70th Street and Time Square Arts. Joyce He will join the second part of the exhibition starting from March 16, 2021 and have six pieces of artwork installed in the Asia Society Museum. She will also perform An Artist Talk twice, a performance with two Taiwanese actors. She will also have an artist talk hosted by the director of the Triennial, Boon Hui Tan.

Joyce He was born in Taipei and received her MA in painting from University of Iowa in the USA in 2010. She currently lives and works in Taipei. Her practice includes painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance. Her multifaceted works explore daily rituals, the deconstruction of movement, and the tension between illusion and reality. She has held numerous solo shows and been included in many important art festivals around the world including: 2020 Yokohama Triennial: Afterglow, Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama, Japan, 2019 Still: Joyce Ho Solo Exhibition, OzAsia Festival, Artspace Gallery, Adelaid, Australia, 2018 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia, 2016 Semitransparent Scenery, The First Kirishima Lobby Project, Kirishima Open-air Museum, Kagoshima.
