Taiwanese Comic Artists Participate 2019 MoCCA Arts Festival

The Taipei Cultural Center in New York is very pleased to invite Taiwanese comic artists, Li Lung-Chieh(李隆杰) and Ko You-Shi(柯宥希, 顆粒) to bring their award-wining works, 1661 Koxinga Z and Why Not 3 ? to participate 2019 MoCCA Arts Festival in New York and demonstrate how they create their characters.


The MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Arts Festival is the largest gathering of independent illustrators and cartoon, comic and animation artists in New York. Artists, publishers, and literary scouts from all over the world attend this event. The Society of Illustrators is the host of the 2019 MoCCA Arts Festival. It will take place April 6-7th, 2019 at Metropolitan West in New York City (West 46th Street between 11th and 12 Avenues) with programming mere steps away at Ink48 (653 11th Ave).


Li Lung-Chieh, whose work 1661 Koxinga Z received Comic of the Year and Best Comic for Young Adults at the 2018 Golden Comic Awards, Taiwan. His work is based on research and interpretation of historical documents, successfully presents in an entertaining way, making it the best example of what draws people to comics. Ko You-Shi (aka Cory), whose work Why Not? 3 received Best Comic for Teenage Girls at the 2018 Golden Comic Awards, Taiwan. Her works are like poems that praise a spring day, as they gently and intangibly win over readers’ hearts.


Although these two artists have completely different styles, they are both outstanding storytellers who have won prestigious comic art awards in Taiwan and abroad, as well as developed large fanbases. Li and Cory to be the popular comic artists of the Taiwan Comics exhibition, in which their award-winning comics will be displayed, in addition to other creative works and associated merchandise. During scheduled demonstrations, fans and other comic artists can carry out face-to-face exchanges with these two artists and fans can collect their hand-drawn illustrations. On April 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, they will give a lecture at the Society of Illustrators, during which they will talk about their creative processes and the features of Taiwanese comics, as well as demonstrate how they draw their comics.
