  • Date:2025-04-02

Expo Chicago

The Taipei Cultural Center in New York, in collaboration with EXPO CHICAGO and Taiwan’s Hong-Gah Museum, is proud to present Interwoven Timelines, Taiwan Video Arts showcase at EXPO CHICAGO. This milestone event marks Taiwan’s debut with its own pavilion in the "Special Projects" sector of the prestigious art fair, featuring a curated selection of cutting-edge video works by contemporary Taiwanese artists.

Curated by Zoe Yeh(葉佳蓉), Director of Hong-Gah Museum, Interwoven Timelines explores how video art serves as a powerful medium to examine personal and collective memory, historical transitions, and the fluid nature of time. Having participated in EXPO CHICAGO’s 2024 Curatorial Exchange, Yeh’s involvement in this year’s project underscores Taiwan’s growing engagement in the international art scene. Her curatorial vision weaves together diverse perspectives, fostering a compelling dialogue between past and present.

Interwoven Timelines showcases seven Taiwanese artists— Chen Liang-Hsuan(陳亮璇), Chen Yin-Ju(陳瀅如), Hsu Chia-Wei(許家維), Liu Yu(劉玗) & Wu Sih-Chin(吳思嶔), Wu Chi-Yu(吳其育) and Zhang Xu Zhan (張徐展)—who investigate the intersections of history, mythology, and contemporary realities through video art. Their works uncover hidden narratives within ancient civilizations, tribal legends, and Enlightenment texts. Through innovative storytelling and immersive visuals, the artists reimagine cultural memory, spiritual traditions, and evolving perceptions of time. From the rhythms of daily life and human breath to historical trade routes and ecological consciousness, Interwoven Timelines reflects on identity, knowledge, and the collective human experience in an increasingly interconnected world.

Beyond launching Interwoven Timelines, the Taipei Cultural Center in New York continues to strengthen its collaboration with EXPO CHICAGO. In 2025, TCCNY proudly supports the participation of two Taiwanese curators—Chuang Wei-Tzu (莊偉慈) and Huang Shan-Shan (黃姍姍)—in the Curatorial Exchange Program, marking the third consecutive year of this meaningful partnership. As a past participant in the exchange, curator Zoe Yeh’s leading role in Interwoven Timelines highlights the program’s lasting impact on Taiwan’s engagement in global curatorial discourse.

EXPO CHICAGO is a leading platform for contemporary and modern art, bringing together top galleries, artists, and institutions from around the world. Taiwan’s inaugural participation with a dedicated pavilion underscores its commitment to fostering cultural exchange and elevating Taiwanese contemporary art on the international stage.
