With the support by the Taipei Cultural Center, PIERCE and LOST IN A WALTZ will be presented at the 28th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Li Ji-Tian, director of LOST IN A WALTZ, will also engage with fans at the Toronto premiere on November 16.
The 28th Edition Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival takes place from November 13 to 24 at various theatres. This year, the festival’s lineup includes 17 features and 49 short films, with works from around the world.
Director Nelicia Low's debut, PIERCE, draws on her experience as a competitive fencer. The film tells the story of high school fencer Zijie who chooses to trust and help his older brother Zihan after the latter is released from jail, defying their mother’s attempts to hide their traumatic past. It secured the best director award at Karlovy Vary and earned a spot at the Busan International Film Festival. PIERCE will be screening on November 14 with a Q&A with Nelicia Low via video link.
LOST IN A WALTZ was selected for the "an Unfamiliar Tale" short section. The film uses animation to illustrate how a mother misses her own mother. Director Ji-Tian Li graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts, and participated in the AVU exchange program in Prague in 2021; her focus centered on materials and installations. She is now a full-time artist, exploring space through gardening, ceramics, painting, music, and performance.
The Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is Canada’s largest pan-Asian film festival and showcases contemporary Asian cinema and work from the Asian diaspora.
