With the Taipei Cultural Center’s support, the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will present two Taiwanese films in Official Selection at the 2024 TIFF: Daughter’s Daughter and Dead Talents Society from September 6-14,2024.
Daughter’s Daughter directed by Huang Xi was selected for Platform slate, which is TIFF’s competitive programme featuring 10 exceptional films representing 17 countries. The film stars screen legend Sylvia Chang as a woman forced to decide the fate of her recently deceased daughter’s embryo. It “confirms the young writer-director’s status as the bold new voice in Taiwanese cinema”, as described on TIFF’s online introduction. Huang Xi and Sylvia Chang will take the stage to present the World Premiere of Daughter’s Daughter on September 12.
Dead Talents Society directed by John Hsu entered TIFF’s Midnight Madness programme. The section features 10 titles that celebrate the best in action, horror, shock, and fantasy cinema. The story is about a meek and newly dead teen (Gingle Wang) learns from an undead diva (Sandrine Pinna) how to haunt the living. This bloody and hilarious supernatural comedy invites you to peer beyond the veil into the secret netherworld of professional spectres as they compete in terrorizing the living to ensure their liminal lifestyle. John Hsu and Gingle Wang meet the audience in Toronto at the North American Premiere of Dead Talents Society on September 6.
